Search for Elder Care, Senior Care Resources & Programs

There are a wide variety of support organizations and groups available to caregivers. You owe it to yourself (or to a caregiver you are acquainted with). Be sure to include in your search effort support groups such as:

Alzheimer's disease support groups

Groups that help caregivers cope with the stress and groups that provide breaks for caregivers

  • Chronic illness support groups

  • Groups to help caregivers and those receiving the care deal with depression

  • Groups providing the needed spiritual support

  • Volunteer support groups

  • Work - life support programs

Government Elder Care Services - be sure to include in your search, the extensive support and services provided by government (local and national) organizations. Here's a few examples:

  • Eldercare Locator, a public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging http://www.eldercare.gov/ & http://www.eldercare.gov/Eldercare.NET/Public/Index.aspx for the locator service.

  • Senior Citizens' Resources  - USA.gov government "...resources for seniors on money, housing, health, consumer protection, and more"

  • Administration on Aging (AOA) - Dept. of Health & Human Services, AOA.gov; and announced on April 16, 2012, a new organization within the Department of Health & Human Services  was formed, the "Administration for Community Living” (ACL). The ACLagency has been charged "...with the goal of increasing access to community supports and full participation, while focusing attention and resources on the unique needs of older Americans and people with disabilities" as noted on their Website. http://www.hhs.gov/acl/

  • Guide to long term care planning - a free guide provided by NCPC, National Care Planning Council

  • http://www.longtermcarelink.net/a13information_guide.htm. And, because of the importance they have placed on the guide, this is their use statement, "You have our limited permission to reproduce the information found on the pages within the Guide to Long Term Care Planning, so long as it is for personal use, noncommercial endeavors, or part of an institution's educational or classroom curriculum" Be sure to bookmark the link to the guide as it is an online resource that you'll need to return to for future reference time and time again we suspect!

  • The NCPC Website also has a valuable list of 45 categories that include links to "...hundreds of useful long term care web sites." http://www.longtermcarelink.net/a14useful_links.htm

  • With this one resource and the link above you will save a great deal of time by simply bookmarking the link above to this page; clicking on any of the 45 category listings takes you to their next page that highlights the types of organziations that are available for that category and has links to every one of the sites that have a focus on the particular category. Once again, a very valuable resource providing links to hundreds of equally valuable elder care and elder caregiver resources. http://www.longtermcarelink.net/a14useful_links.htm
